Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Binsort AI-powered color sorting machines, technology, service, and purchasing.
Binsort manufactures a full range of AI-powered optical sorting machines designed to handle virtually any dry, free-flowing granular product. Our product lineup includes dedicated sorters for rice (parboiled, raw, aromatic, and broken varieties), pulses and lentils (chickpeas, moong, toor, masoor, urad), grains (wheat, maize, barley, millet), seeds (hybrid, coated, and export-grade), coffee beans (cherry, green, and roasted), nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios), plastic flakes and pellets (PET, HDPE, PVC, mixed polymers), and tea (leaf and dust grades). Each machine is engineered with product-specific lighting, sensor configurations, ejector arrays, and chutes to ensure gentle handling and maximum yield. If you process a product not listed above, our engineering team can assess feasibility and design a custom configuration we have successfully sorted spices, recycled glass, industrial minerals, and even pharmaceutical intermediates for specialized clients.
Our machines deliver up to 99.9% sorting accuracy depending on the product, defect type, and feed conditions. This industry-leading precision is achieved through a combination of high-resolution CCD cameras, near-infrared (NIR) and ultraviolet (UV) sensors where applicable, and our proprietary deep-learning vision algorithms that have been trained on millions of sample images. The carryover ratio the percentage of good product incorrectly rejected with the bad is typically below 0.5%, which directly translates to higher yield and less waste. During commissioning, our engineers calibrate each machine to your specific product and quality target, and we provide a detailed acceptance test report documenting the achieved accuracy before handover. It is important to note that real-world accuracy depends on consistent feed rate, proper pre-cleaning, and regular maintenance, all of which our service team helps you optimize.
Binsort sorters are available in a wide capacity range from 0.5 tons per hour up to 15 tons per hour, with channel counts ranging from 64 to 768 channels. The right capacity depends on three factors: your peak daily throughput, the number of hours per day the line runs, and the defect load in your incoming product. As a rule of thumb, we recommend sizing the sorter to handle your peak throughput with 15–20% headroom so the machine is not running at maximum ejector duty, which extends valve life and reduces air consumption. Our sales engineers will ask for your product type, current or target tonnage, shift pattern, and incoming quality data, then recommend a configuration including the number of channels, whether single-stage or two-stage sorting is appropriate, and whether a second pass is needed. We also provide a sizing calculator during the consultation so you can see the relationship between capacity, accuracy, and cost.
Traditional optical sorters rely on fixed color thresholds you define a range of acceptable colors and the machine rejects everything outside that range. This works for obvious defects but struggles with subtle shade differences, shape-based defects, and products with natural color variation. Binsort AI vision replaces this with deep-learning convolutional neural networks that have been trained on millions of images of both good and defective product. The AI does not just see color; it understands texture, shape, size distribution, and context. This means it can distinguish a slightly chalky rice grain from a truly broken one, identify insect-damaged coffee beans that look identical to the human eye, and recognize stem fragments in tea that match the leaf color. The models continuously improve through cloud-based retraining, so your machine gets smarter over time. Importantly, the inference happens on-machine via edge computing, so there is no latency penalty and no dependency on an internet connection during operation.
Yes. Every Binsort sorter is Industry 4.0 ready out of the box. We support OPC-UA and MQTT communication protocols, which are the industry standards for machine-to-machine data exchange. The machine exposes real-time data including throughput, rejection ratio, defect distribution, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), uptime, and alarm history. This data can be consumed by your SCADA system, a dedicated Binsort cloud dashboard, or pushed directly to your ERP via REST API. Our analytics platform provides a web-based dashboard where plant managers can compare machine performance across lines and locations, set yield targets, and receive predictive maintenance alerts when a component such as an ejector valve or light source begins to show degradation. This connectivity is included at no additional cost; you simply need a network connection at the machine location.
Our sorters use a multi-sensor approach tailored to each product. The base layer is a high-resolution CCD camera array operating in the visible spectrum, capable of detecting color differences as subtle as a single shade value. For products where surface color is not enough such as coffee, nuts, and seeds we add near-infrared (NIR) sensors that detect internal damage, shell fragments, and insect infestation invisible to the human eye. Ultraviolet (UV) sensors are used for coffee and certain grains to detect mycotoxin-producing molds. The lighting system uses long-life LED arrays with customized wavelengths for each product, ensuring consistent illumination without heat damage to delicate items like tea leaves. All sensors are housed in a dust-proof, IP65-rated enclosure with automatic lens cleaning to maintain accuracy in harsh industrial environments. The entire sensor stack is modular, so if a new sensor technology emerges, it can be retrofitted without replacing the machine.

The Enterprise plan provides unlimited visits, a dedicated service engineer, 24×7 response under 1 hour, on-site arrival within 48 hours, a 25% parts discount, and an annual software upgrade. All plans include access to our cloud-connected remote diagnostics platform, which allows our engineers to troubleshoot your machine in real time without a site visit. For customers outside India, we have certified service partners in 25+ countries who stock common spare parts and provide on-site support. Spare parts availability is guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years from the date of purchase.
Installation is a turnkey process managed by our certified field service engineers. It begins with a site assessment where we verify power supply, compressed air capacity, floor load-bearing, and integration points with your existing pre-cleaners, elevators, and bagging lines. On installation day, our team positions the machine, connects utilities, and runs the first power-on sequence. We then calibrate the vision system to your specific product, set rejection parameters to your quality target, and conduct a full acceptance test over a minimum 4-hour production run. You receive a detailed commissioning report documenting throughput, accuracy, carryover ratio, and air consumption. The entire process typically takes 2–3 days for a single machine and 5–7 days for a complete line. Operator training is conducted during commissioning so your team is ready to run independently from day one. Travel and accommodation for our engineers is included in the machine price within India; for international installations, we coordinate with our regional service partners.
Yes. Every machine purchase includes a complimentary 3-day operator training program conducted at your site during commissioning. The training covers daily operation, recipe creation and modification, routine maintenance tasks, basic troubleshooting, and safety procedures. Operators who complete the program receive a Binsort Certified Operator card. For more advanced needs, we offer a 5-day Technician Certification program at our training center in Bengaluru, which covers electronics, pneumatics, vision system calibration, and advanced diagnostics. This program is ideal for maintenance teams managing multiple machines. We also provide online training modules accessible through our customer portal, video tutorials for common tasks, and a knowledge base of troubleshooting guides. Refresher training is available at any time, and we recommend recertification every 2 years as software and features evolve.
